Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 U.K. employers
have an obligation to make adequate and appropriate first aid provisions for their employees.
The Health and Safety
Executive require that someone is able to undertake First Aid duties at all times when people are at work.
As of October
2009 the H.S.E. have approved 2 courses,
- The 3 Day First Aid At Work (F.A.W.) and
new 1 Day Emergency First Aider in the Workplace (E.F.A.W.)
In addition a range of courses also meet the
requirements of 'appointed persons' in the workplace, a guideline from the 1981 First Aid Regulations.
is also recommended by the H.S.E. That these courses are followed up by an annual refresher course
